Eurípedes Malavolta
Euripedes Malavolta completed his degree in Agricultural Engineering at the Escola Superior de Agricultura “Luiz de Queiroz”, USP in 1949 where he also completed his Free Teaching degree (1951) and obtained the Chair of Organic Chemistry and Biological Chemistry in 1958. He was an associate researcher at the University of California, Berkeley on grant from the Rockefeller Foundation (1952-53). At the Kearney Foundation of Soil Science he served as visiting professor for the year 1959-60. He retired from Luiz de Queiroz in 1984 and since then worked as a licensed researcher at the Center for Nuclear Energy in Agriculture until 2008, when he passed away. He became an honorary member of SBCS during the XXV Brazilian Soil Science Congress, held in Viçosa, in 1995.
Professor Eurípedes Malavolta has always worked in teaching and research in the areas of mineral nutrition of plants, soil fertility, fertilization and environmental aspects of the use of fertilizers and correctives.
In his academic career he published 45 books and 70 book chapters, in addition to 850 articles in specialized journals in Brazil and abroad. He participated in several events abroad and in Brazil. He supervised 40 master’s and 64 doctoral dissertations in the field of Agronomy. He has received 11 awards and/or honors.
