Mission

The Brazilian Soil Science Society (SBCS) was created in 1947 to bring together people and institutions in the promotion and development of Soil Science in Brazil. It is a non-profit scientific and civil entity currently based in the Soil Department of the Federal University of Viçosa-MG.

The main purposes of the Brazilian Soil Science Society are:

I  – Promote and increase the rapprochement and intellectual exchange of those who work in research, teaching, dissemination or technical activities for knowledge and better use of soil and water in Brazil.

II  – Spread knowledge of scientific methods and rational techniques for the exploration, treatment and conservation of soil and water.

III  – Deal with the adequacy and standardization of soil nomenclature and representation, as well as analysis methods and their quality controls.

IV  – Collaborate and ensure the improvement of the Brazilian Soil Classification System and the detailing of Soil Surveys in Brazil.

V  – Stimulate the formation of Specialized Libraries, Museums and Soil Reference Centers.
